New Year Plus Blogiversary! (Adriana)

Happy New Year everyone! I hope that 2008 is filled with fibery joys.
Tomorrow is our Blogiversary (and my brother's birthday. Happy Birthday Neil!) but I'm going to be in Windsor visiting the one and only Spillyjane so I thought I'd post today.

I found our inaugural post from a year ago complete with a to-knit list. Here was mine:

Tubey (in Mission Falls 1824 Wool) - done
Tabachin (yarn unknown) from Eternal Noro - didn't happen
Shawl (Rowanspun 4ply) in an undetermined pattern - I made Birch!
Socks for my Granny's 90th birthday! - Did those plus another pair for Christmas
Lotus Blossom Tank (in Elsebeth Lavold Hempathy) - I looked into knitting this but upon closer inspection didn't like some aspects of the pattern, although that was before I saw Rachel's beautiful version.
Finish my Swallowtail Shawl (in red Misti Alpaca laceweight) - yeppers!
A Scarf (in RYC Cashsoft DK) to match Odessa - still no matching scarf for my Odessa
Greek Pullover - didn't happen either
A special gift for someone! - I have no idea what this was referring to :)

I think I did pretty well overall. I have made up a new to-knit list for 2008, of course.
Back to School Vest - which I started a month ago but gauge lies and it's too small.
Ms. Marigold in Silky Wool I got for Christmas
Knit the second Naive Sock and Pomatomus
Muir in KP Shadow (part of a swap with Jane)
Make a summer top that I will actually wear (Leela hasn't been worn once!)
Make a dent in the sock yarn stash (specifically the gorgeous yarns dyed by Rosemary and Heather)

I think that's a pretty manageable list for the upcoming year. I don't have any specific knitting resolutions, just to continue to knit from the stash whenever possible and to make things that are functional, also whenever possible.

Since no blog post is complete without pictures I thought I'd show off the project I was working on yesterday and today:

This was knit with no specific recipient in mind, I was inspired by the love shown to Tommy the Turtle and I wanted something quick. I used DB Cashmerino Aran with some white acrylic for the eyes and nose.

And here they're snuggling (I did not include the picture where she tries to smother him. Cleo lacks a mothering instinct)

A FO on January 1st? I think 2008 is off to a great start :)

Eventful Day (Heather)

It has been a busy day of knitting, after a short knitting slump.

Busy, not always productive. I finished another chart repeat of Clessidra and the tenth leg decrease. Then I checked the pattern to make sure I did the next and last decrease correctly. Upon which I discovered that the next leg decrease took place on the sixth row, not the twelfth.

Coincidently, the last four leg decreases did the same thing. Except mine didn't.



The green marker shows the last point at which the pattern is correct. I posted my situation at the knitalong, and I am waiting to frog in case someone comes up with some amazing suggestion. From now on my knitting mantra is; check the pattern check the pattern check the pattern... Which is an improvement from this afternoon's mantra which was crapcrapcrapcrapcrapcrap!

In a desperate bid to save the day's productivity, I did manage to finish the knitting on Central Park. Pardon the terrible picture, I finished casting off after dark, and didn't want to wait for morning.



Now I seam in the sleeves and the sides and weave in more ends than there really ought to be considering the balls are 250m each and I spit spliced everything I could. Honestly.

I have decided that it would be awfully nice to wear a new sweater for Easter...

New Year, New Blog!

A while back, we were chatting and it was suggested that perhaps if we had a shared blog, we would be motivated (or shamed) into posting more often. Not to mention it would be a fun way to keep on knitting together while in different cities. Hence the name!

What better time could there be to finally get our balls of yarn in a row and bring this idea to fruition than New Years?

So, without further adieu, our 2007 Knitting Resolutions!

This year I would like to knit more out of the stash, though not exclusively (like Heather is attempting to). I want to knit more shawls, now that I have successfully completed one. Now that my gym regime is paying off, I want to knit more sweaters and tanks! I also want to experiment with beads. My to-knit list for the upcoming year looks like this:

My knitting resolutions focus mainly on knitting some of the lovely yarn I have been squirreling away for the past few years! I will not be exempting sock yarn, as the sock stash threatens to eat the cats any day now. I made some last minute purchases in the last few days of 2006, so I am hoping that will tide me over for a while... I also want to try Fair Isle knitting this year, and I want to knit more for my husband. The things at the top of my list are:

That's what has been percolating in my brain these past few weeks. I have a 'to-finish' list to tackle before I hit this. Here's to a fresh start!
